When a budget-priced 3D printer finds success on the consumer market, it’s pretty commonplace for companies to tweak a few aspects and re-release its flagship product as a new “Pro” or “Plus” model.

These refined versions typically only feature a couple of minor hardware improvements at a slightly higher cost, the Chinese manufacturer Tronxy has put a little more meaning into the “Pro” designation. Building off of the Tronxy XY-2, the Tronxy XY-2 Pro is a completely revamped model that can be considered as an entirely new 3D printer.

Compared to its predecessor, it has a larger build volume, a medley of new features, all while remaining well under the $300 mark. With a frame design akin to the popular Creality Ender 3, the Tronxy XY-2 Pro offers some interesting perks that could entice frugally-minded makers and beginners alike.

In fact, there are actually two versions of the Tronxy XY-2 Pro available, but we’ll get into the differences later in this article.

Want to learn more about the Tronxy XY-2 Pro and how it compares to the original Tronxy XY-2? Let’s review the specs to find out.

Taking after the Creality Ender 3, the original Tronxy XY-2 employs a simple, bare-bones frame design with all-black black aluminum extrusions. The Tronxy XY-2 Pro takes things to the next level both performance and appearance-wise.

Priced somewhere between $200 and $230 (depending on where you look), the Tronxy XY-2 Pro presents some surprisingly advanced features considering the low cost. Needless to say, both beginners and makers looking for an affordable FDM machine will likely see this machine as a bargain.

Let’s go over the features of the Tronxy XY-2 Pro, as well as how it differs from the Tronxy XY-2 and the highly comparable Ender 3.

Frame Design and Assembly

Right off the bat, you’ll notice that the Tronxy XY-2 Pro has a sharp blue extruder and x-axis linear rail. This 3D printer comes semi-assembled but is pretty easy to put together. Simply attach the upper bracket to the printer’s base and connect the touch screen display.

One nice perk is the single cable design, making it easy to plug in the wiring in one single step without worrying about a mess of wires or bundling everything together yourself.

Larger Build Volume Than the Rest of the Pack

The 255 x 255 x 260 mm build volume is a major step up from the previous iteration, which had a print volume of 220 x 220 x 260 mm. In fact, the Tronxy XY-2 Pro offers a larger build volume than both the Creality Ender 3 and Ender 3 Pro as well.

Advanced Features at a Low Price Point

Perhaps the most unexpected feature found on the Tronxy XY-2 Pro is the auto-leveling sensor. No need to spend time manually leveling the bed, allow the integrated sensor to handle that hassle for you. As you may know, a sub-$300 3D printer that comes equipped with auto-leveling isn’t exactly common.

The Tronxy XY-2 Pro also has some more common (but still helpful) attributes like resume print, a feature that will save your print data in case the power goes out and the printing progress is suddenly interrupted.

A sensor is also integrated into the extruder in order to monitor filament extrusion, alerting users when the filament is running our or cut. Once an issue with the filament is detected, the printer will automatically pause so that the filament can re-loaded before continuing the print.

Extruder, Heated Bed, and More

Like the Tronxy XY-2 before it, the extruder on the Tronxy XY-2 Pro has two fans to enhance cooling during the printing process.

While the extruder doesn’t appear to have changed much on the stock Pro model, there’s a slightly more expensive version of the XY-2 Pro floating around the internet that has a Titan extruder and silent motherboard.

Priced around $259, the upgraded Titan extruder and motherboard appear to be the only differences in this special edition of the XY-2 Pro (at least as far as we can tell).

The manufacturer has improved the heated bed on the Tronxy XY-2 Pro. In just five minutes, the heated bed can reach 110℃. It also has a removable and flexible build plate, making it easy to remove models after the print is complete.

While both models have a 3.5-inch full-color touchscreen, the one on the Tronxy XY-2 Pro appears to be refined to provide a better user experience that is simple and faster to navigate.

Last but not least, Tronxy claims to offer lifetime technical support within 24 hours (so long as it’s not during the Chinese New Year).

All in all, the Tronxy XY-2 Pro has some enticing features considering it can be purchased for around $200. Easy assembly, the auto-leveling sensor, and low price point make it appealing for beginners, while more advanced users will enjoy the larger build volume and fast-heating print bed.
