Looking for a custom Raspberry Pi 4 Model B case to 3D print? Here are the best models we‘ve found. All of them are free.

The Raspberry Foundation has just released its newest single board computer iteration, the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B.

Long awaited, yet surprisingly sooner than expected, the newly released Pi has undergone quite a steroid treatment when it comes to its technical specs while keeping its backward compatibility with previous models.

However, one thing that does not have backward compatibility is the casing. While the Raspberry Pi 4 circuit board remains the same size as previous models, due to the newly added Mini-HDMI slots, most of the fantastic cases to 3D print for the Raspberry Pi 3 will not fit the newest machine. But do not despair: Tinkerers all over the world are furiously working on their CAD programs designing new and redesigning old models, to fit the Raspberry Pi 4.

We’ve scoured the web for the best free designs to 3D print, and we will continuously update this list once new ideas emerge from the working benches all around the globe.

Best Free Raspberry Pi 4 Cases to 3D Print Wall mounted Pi 4 Case

This model, designed by user Tipam on Thingiverse, has it all. Not only is the casing well ventilated itself, but it also features the possibility of active cooling with a 30 x 30 x 7 mm fan. Something the Pi 4 seems to struggle with a bit. The added processing power can let the Pi 4 get rather hot when running multiple tasks. With this casing, you do not need to fear your Pi getting burned.

It consists of two parts, that easily click together plus it features a wall mount plate, also with a quick slide-to-remove mechanism.

This minimalistic case does fit all Pi models, protecting the precious interior from any bumps. Literally on top, it comes with a super handy fan mechanism. And with this casing, you can mount pretty much every fan size up to 70mm, or even larger fans with customization. Needless to say: We are a big fan (pun intended).

This Raspberry Pi 4 case comes in a sleek but elegant design, somehow reminding us of a certain overpriced cheese grater ( don’t worry, we will not charge $999 bucks for a stand).  Apart from that, it can also be equipped with a 30 mm fan. Plus there is another printable version without the fan mount, but 2 mm taller to accommodate a slightly bigger heatsink. So either way, your Pi should be cool with it.

Sometimes, minimalism is best. To show off the elegant circuitry of the Raspberry Pi board, while still providing some degree of protection from falling screws and stray fingers, this bumper should be all the case you need. It was initially designed for the Model 3 B+ version, but user comments on Thingiverse verify that it also can be used as a Raspberry Pi 4 case just as well. Also practical if your Raspberry Pi is getting too hot.

Another quick Raspberry Pi 3 case to 3D print when you’re in a hurry but still want to provide the computer with some degree of protection. It’s similar to the Bumper Humper, except it’s topped and tailed with a honeycomb structure to catch larger objects.

Best Free Raspberry Pi 4 Cases to 3D Print Raspberry Pi Case

This is a remixed model from one of the – if not the – most popular custom casings for the Raspberry Pi 2/3. It provides ventilation holes, although we would recommend to print it with PET-G, as testing shows the new Raspberry Pi CPU temperature can be much hotter than previous models. Printing with PLA may cause some warping.

Best Free Raspberry Pi 4 Cases to 3D Print Snap Fit Raspberry Pi 4 Case

Another adapted version of a Raspberry Pi 3 evergreen case, updated to fit the different board layout of the newly released Raspberry 4. It comes in a compact outline without the need of screws or glue, but with a snap-fit mechanism. Even though this model does not support the installation of a fan, it offers acceptable ventilation due to the many slots. On top, you can choose different stands to print from the STL files. Again, we would recommend using PET-G for better heat resistance.

This is an updated version of the above casing, this time equipped with a fan. Supported are fans with 30 x 30 x 7 mm. Additional cooling may come in handy, as the Raspberry Pi 4 4GB is heating up to ~62°C in idle without a housing. By adding a 30mm fan, you can reduce its idle temperature to ~42°C without using an additional heatsink. To mount the fan, you will need 4x M3x12 screws and 4x M3 nuts.

Best Free Raspberry Pi 4 Cases to 3D Print Raspberry Pi Open "Case"

This design does take the Raspberry Pi’s rather high operating temperature into account and more or less completely renounces the casing aspect, but for a bottom plate to which the Raspberry Pi 4 is screwed to. Mounted on top is the cooling system. The creator here used the standard iUniker Raspberry fan, which can be easily connected using the GIPO pons on the Pi. Without a casing which acts as a heat chamber, it is possible to keep the Raspberry Pi 4 CPU at reasonable temperatures throughout operating.

Edit from the designer: One serious downside of an open case design is that a curious cat might decide that it is fun to stop the fan with a claw.
